VSA arts is pleased to launch the 2007 Playwright Discovery Call for Scripts. The VSA arts Playwright Discovery Program invites middle and high school students to take a closer look at the world around them, examine how disability affects their lives and the lives of others, and express their views through the art of playwriting. Young playwrights with and without disabilities are encouraged to submit a script. The selected script will be professionally produced at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in September. In addition, the selected playwright will receive $2,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C. to view their work as it appears on stage.
You can download the submission rules and application at www.vsarts.org. State Affiliates like Idaho Parents Unlimited will be receiving packets to assist in the local efforts of those wishing to apply for this program in the next couple of weeks. The application deadline is April 13, 2007. For help in Idaho contact Evelyn Mason or Vicki Looney at Idaho Parents Unlimited Inc. and the VSA arts of Idaho program. At the National VSA arts office contact Irene Weygandt at irenew@vsarts.org.
Just a reminder, in 2000 a young man from Eagle, Idaho - Luke Barrats - took fourth place in this national competition by writing a script on a blind baseball pitcher. Lets get Idaho kids involved again. It's a great opportunity.
VSA arts of Idaho – empower people with disabilities and to engage them in the creative process through opportunities which are fully inclusive, educational, and participatory.
